Transfer Credit Information

Due to the large number of applicants to our programs and the complexity of transfer credit assessment, we are unable to do preliminary advising on post secondary transfer credit. You are asked to submit a U of A application and supporting documents which will enable us to assess your previous post secondary courses for transfer credit and make an admission decision.

Block Transfer Agreements- Students or gradutes from these diploma programs are eligible for transfer credit based on successful completion of the related diploma program.  High school pre-requisites remain in effect; please review the admission requirements of your program for more information.

Transfer students from an Alberta post secondary college, university college or technical school may confirm transfer credit course equivalents with an advisor at their current school or through the online transfer guide.

My school is not listed in the online transfer guide.  How can I tell if a course will transfer to my ALES program?

Students can identify a potential course equivalent by reading the course calendar description for the required U of A course and finding the closest matching course at their current school.

High School Pre-Requisites

Students who need to upgrade a high school subject(s) to meet program admission requirements are encouraged to check with an upgrading organization in their local community, as the U of A does not offer high school upgrading classes. Students wanting to begin their U of A program in September have until August to complete the upgrading course(s).

After Degree Programs

The Faculty of ALES does not offer any separate after-degree programs.  All students, regardless of academic or employment background, must complete the requirements of the four year undergraduate program.  Where possible, transfer credit from a previous degree will be awarded and will reduce the amount of time required to complete the program.  A minimum of 60 credits must be completed while attending the U of A.

Mature Students

A mature student is defined as someone who will be 21 years or older by the first day of classes in which admission is sought, and who has not attended any other post secondary school since leaving high school.  Students admitted under this category must still present a competitive admission average in the required high school subjects.  Please review the admission requirements of your program for more information.

Students who are 21 or older and have previously attended a post secondary school will be evaluated for admission as a transfer student.  High school pre-requisites remain in effect; please review the admission requirements of your program for more information.
